How to Join Indian Air Force After 12th Class ✈️ NDA Entry – Indian Air Force

Joining the Indian Air Force (IAF) after 12th class is a dream for many students who want to serve the nation and live a life full of pride, discipline, and adventure. Here’s a complete guide on how you can join the Air Force after 12th:

  1. Through NDA (National Defence Academy)

Eligibility:

You must have passed 12th class with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) for Air Force Wing.

Age limit: 16.5 to 19.5 years

Only unmarried male candidates (female candidates can apply after graduation through AFCAT).

Selection Process:

Appear for NDA exam conducted by UPSC (twice a year).

Clear written exam (Maths and General Ability Test).

Clear SSB Interview (5-day selection process including physical, psychological tests, and personal interview).

Clear Medical Examination.

Training:

3 years training at NDA (Pune) + specialized Air Force training at Air Force Academy (Hyderabad).

  1. Through Airmen Entry (Group X and Group Y Trades)

Eligibility for Group X (Technical Trades):

12th with PCM and minimum 50% marks overall and 50% in English.

Eligibility for Group Y (Non-Technical Trades):

12th pass in any stream with minimum 50% marks and 50% in English.

Selection Process:

Online written test

Physical Fitness Test (PFT)

Adaptability Test 1 and 2

Medical Examination

Note: Group X focuses more on technical fields (like aircraft maintenance), while Group Y is for administrative and logistics roles.

  1. AFCAT (After Graduation)

If you are a female or want to join as an officer (Flying Branch, Ground Duty), you can appear for AFCAT after completing graduation.

Women can join Indian Air Force only after graduation currently.

  1. Physical and Medical Standards

Good eyesight, hearing, and general physical health are mandatory.

Minimum height for males: 152 cm (varies slightly with branch and region).

You must pass stringent medical tests conducted by Air Force doctors.

Important Tips:

Start preparing for NDA right after 10th class.

Focus on Maths, Physics, and General Knowledge.

Maintain good physical fitness (running, push-ups, sit-ups, swimming).

Develop communication skills for the SSB interview.
